A Modern Overview: What Is Special About The Woodlands?
The Woodlands is mainly located in Montgomery County in Texas with some portion placed in Harris County. With a relatively new history that began in 1974, the Woodlands is merely 28 miles north of Houston within the state of Texas in the Sugar Land-Houston-The Woodlands metropolitan area. This makes it easy for residents to access the main city, while retaining the opportunity to relish a tranquil lifestyle.
The community has retained much of its tree cover to enrich the area with decorative appeal and shade. The Urban Land Institute even gave it a Special Excellence Award in 1994.
While it originated as a bedroom community and suburban development, the community has quickly expanded into a sprawling community – attracting major corporations like Maersk Line, Chevron Phillips, ExxonMobil, Huntsman Corporation, GeoSouthern Energy and Baker Hughes within its borders.
The Woodlands is spread over 28,000 acres with a population of 107,796 based on a January 2014 estimate. This was a 93.7 percent over its 2000-census population of 55,649.
In 2011, Howard Hughes Development Corporation bought the Woodlands. Co-founded by Howard Hughes in 1913, the Howard Hughes Corporation is a huge real estate developer in Dallas.
Government and Existing Infrastructure
While the Woodlands is not a conventional township government or a traditional city, it offers limited municipal services like fire and rescue, trash pickup, law enforcement, parks and recreation and security patrols.
The existing amenities in the township include restaurants, gyms, shopping, running trails, biking trails, hiking pathways, medical facilities, educational institutions and recreational areas. Three transit services are offered in the Woodlands, including the Woodlands Express to Houston commuter services.
Entertainment Activities And Events In The Woodlands
Steeped in a throng of highly coveted entertainment events, the Woodlands is a haven of activities for residents of all age groups:
